Snow?!? In April!?

Published April 15, 2004

Coming out of what was a decent weekend for golf (April 10th & 11th) we were raring to go. The forecast for the up coming weekend is sunny and 65 degrees and the Turf Care staff is looking forward to the sunny forecast to finally get some work done out in the warm spring air. To our surprise, on Wednesday morning (April 14th) we woke up to a golf course covered in snow. So much for high hopes.

The good news is the forecast is still calling for sunny skies. The bad news is golf course will probably not be dry enough to allow much in the way of mowing let alone golf carts on the course this weekend. We'll keep a positive attitude and hope for the best.

In spite of our best efforts to inform the membership of frost and the damage that can be done when the turf is exposed to traffic during a frost, there always seems to be someone who doesn't get the message. The photo below was taken on the morning of April 15th 2004 at 8:00 am shortly after an over anxious member walked across the frozen turf.

Luckily one of our staff members informed this member of his mistake before more turf was damaged.
