Snow Fence
Published January 12, 2006

A few years ago several of the greens were affected by ice and wind damage. In order to reduce the potential of this occuring again we have installed snow fence around several of the "exposed" greens. The purpose of the snow fence is to reduce the effects of the wind as well as deposit wind driven snow on the green. The snow accumulation on the green will hopefully act as an insulator and reduce the exposure to fluctuations in temperature. It's important to recognize that the snow fence may not prevent the occurence of "winter damage" as there are many factors that are involved. The addition of snow fence should be viewed as a measure in our efforts to reduce the occurance of "winter damage", not simply a cure.

"It must be remembered that the great majority of golfers are aiming to reduce their previous best performance by five strokes if possible, and if any of them arrive at the home teeing ground with this possibility in reach, he is not caring too much whether he is driving off from a nearby ancient oak of majestic size, or from a dead sassafras. If his round ends happily, this is one beautiful course. Such is human nature."
