To help keep the greens smooth, today we're applying a very light application of topdressing. By adding sand as topdressing, small depressions on the putting surface are leveled adding to the smoothness of the greens. Another benefit is the dilution of thatch. Diluting the organic zone with sand prevents the greens from getting spongy and helps to maintain a firm surface even when the greens are moist.
