Free Oxygen
Published April 2, 2007

One of the most important items we can add to our greens in our effort to grow healthy turf is Oxygen. The good part about this addition is that it is FREE. That's right, oxygen is in the air all around us. All we have to do is get it into the soil and that's where aerification comes into play.
Last fall, North East Township had to repair the water line for our irrigation system so we had to modify our aerification schedule and we were unable to core aerify the greens last fall. As core aerification is very important in the management of our greens it is important that we implement that process at least once a season. With the abnormally warm weather of late and the absence of play this early in the season we are taking the opportunity to core aerify early this year.

"If a hole does not possess a striking individuality through some gift of nature, it must be given as much as possible artifically and the artifice must be introduced in so subtle a manner as to make it seem natural."
