Dynamic
Published April 21, 2004
The dictionary defines dynamic as:
- marked by continuous change or activity
- an interactive system
That's what our golf course is, DYNAMIC! It's an interactive system that is constantly changing. With the influences of weather and the constantly active micro world underneath the turf, subtle changes are occurring daily. During cool years, microbes may not be as active as in warmer years and less microbe activity may result in more thatch the following year. On humid days, the grass is a little puffier than on dryer days and the greens do not putt as fast. Weather conditions can also cause population swings in turf varieties and the result may cause subtle differences in playing conditions. No two days are the same and the golf course we played last year will not be the same golf course we'll play this year. It may be similar but not the same.
As many of us are asked, after playing a round at one of our favorite courses "What were the conditions like at _______?" We may respond "great" or "all right". But when asked, "How was the View?" we can respond "DYNAMIC!"
