Better Than New?

The repairs continue. During normal usage this mower developed cracks in several places along the main frame. Due to poor engineering and design, the frame on this mower was breaking apart. If not repaired this machine would of certainly collapsed during the upcoming mowing season. Kevin, the Chief Equipment Technician, through his ingenuity and fabrication skills, was able to redesign the frame by adding additional bracing to overcome the poor design flaw. The arrow indicates the position of one of several added supports. The procedure was performed in such a manner that it is difficult to tell that the frame was modified. Kudos to Kevin for a job well done.

When it rains, it pours! Just over 20 years old with over 10,000 service hours on it, this tractor has seen better days. As a vital part of our equipment fleet and in use every single day during the growing season we really need this tractor. If I had my wish, I'd like to replace it with a new one but the budget is stretched tighter than the strings on my Grandpa's banjo, so It will have to remain just that... a Wish. Luckily we have talented staff capable of rebuilding the engine on this tractor and that's what we're going to do. Although it's still not a cheap date, the rebuild will be less expensive than a new tractor.
